Tomorrow is the 4th of July. Yeah America! If your reading this from outside the USA this is the day we celebrate our independence and really, it’s a celebration of the concept of individual freedom that our unique American Culture is built on.
My original intention was going to keep this a short and sweet post saying that I was on vacation and that I wanted to wish everyone a happy independence day.
But naturally I got to thinking. I’ve discussed the concepts of golden handcuffs in a previous post. In their purest form Golden handcuffs serve to limit the freedom of the PIC. In short, being a Professional Individual Contributor you are bound by many things including student loan debts, mortgages, family commitments, and most importantly a system that keeps you one ‘right sizing’ away from any form of financial and health security at all.
I do believe we are moving to a world where professionals individual contributors will not be in this situation, where the professional artist, or professional sales person or even professional nurse will all be under contract and have several customers..
But until that day comes, maybe, just maybe we should keep an eye to increasing our Freedoms as a major component of the decisions we make moving forward.
